About Project
The executed Nuclear Coating Service Level 1 Condition Assessment Coating inspections in both the Drywell and Wetwell are important containment-integrity activities, particularly because the primary containment incorporates a steel liner plate that serves as the primary leakage barrier. This task is NRC mandated (e.g. GL 98-04, RG 1.58), supported by Standard ASTM D-5162-08, and is also a LVNPP License Extension Commitment with the Mexican Nuclear Regulator CNSNS.
The purpose of the inspection was to identify coating degradation that could:
- Reduce corrosion protection of carbon-steel surfaces.
- Expose the containment liner or structural steel to corrosion.
- Produce loose coating material.
- Affect safety-related equipment or systems.
- Require repair, engineering evaluation, or continued monitoring.
- Potentially become debris following a Design Basis Accident (DBA
Services provided
- Coating inspection of the subject drywell and wetwell structures, and generation of the final condition assessment report.
- Inspection methods included visual examinations, followed by dry-film-thickness measurements, adhesion testing, holiday / discontinuity detection, corrosion evaluation, and ultrasonic thickness measurements to identify coating deterioration and metal loss.
