About Project

Engineering and architectural design of standard and robust FLEX Equipment Storage Buildings (F.E.S.B.s) for the post-Fukushima modifications project. The subject F.E.S.B.s stage and protect portable equipment that provides means of obtaining power and water to maintain or restore key safety functions for the nuclear reactors, for mitigating a beyond-design basis external event (BDBEE).

NEI 12-06 provides the basic design guidance for F.E.S.B.s through the use of ASCE 7-10, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. The F.E.S.B.s are also required to comply with site-specific building design basis requirements. Load cases considered included dead weight, seismic (e.g. safe shutdown earthquake), flood, tornado / hurricane winds, tornado depressurization and extreme temperatures, as applicable.

St. Lucie NPP is made up of two Combustion Engineering Pressurized Water Reactors with a combined electrical output of about 2,000 Megawatts. Turkey Point NPP is made up of two Westinghouse Pressurized Water Reactors with a combined electrical output of about 1,386 Megawatts.
